FAQ

What is your style?

I consider myself to be more of an artist than just a professional photog. I am drawn to the moments, versus the poses, and I prioritize feeling and personality over perfection.  Hugely nostalgic myself, I love looking through photographs and being able to almost feel as if you were there - or remember the fun of being there, if you actually were! Documenting more than just the smile is HUGE for me - I want the genuine looks of curiosity and wonder, but also the little interactions, the little moments, the little quirks that will remind you of a certain stage in your life, your child's life, or your relationship.

Do you pose/direct your clients?

I would definitely say it's directing,  more so than posing.  I am always looking for what looks best in my frame - what is flattering, where the light falls and how comfortable and natural it feels, so I'll direct my clients to move or position a certain way if I feel like I need to. But I'm not a huge fan of formal posing, as you can usually feel the rigidity when you later look back at the photo.  My favorite moments to capture, hands down, are the moments with movement. Twirling dresses, running + jumping, laughing, genuine squeezes + hugs - those are the moments I believe you can feel in a photo, as you know that it was unfolding naturally in front of the camera.

We may start off our session with a few formal "smile at the camera" shots, but my hope is that we will quickly move into a natural  conversation, playful interactions and that's where my work truly begins - capturing the in between moments when you don't even realize I'm still snapping away.  I won't get too far on my soapbox here, but our culture had trained us to look for the imperfections of those moments - but they're REAL. And they're BEAUTIFUL. And I want you to love them as much as I do!

How long until we get our photos?

Approximately 2 weeks. I love a good sneak peek once in a while, but the whole online gallery will be delivered via email within two weeks of our session.

Will we have a print release?

Yep! Your high-resolution, edited images will be available via an online gallery, and you'll have the freedom to order/print your own images.

How important is wardrobe/styling for the session?

So important!

Everyone needs to feel as comfortable as possible.  The more confident you feel during the photo taking process, the more excited you'll be to see the images.  Worrying or fussing over outfits will lead to frustration, which is the furthest thing I want you to remember about our time together.

BUT - major but, here - while comfort/confidence is a game-changer, so is a little added embellishment.  Textures, colors, layers - when done within reason, these elements can bring your photo to life, while still being within your usual comfort zone.  Scarves, vests, cardigans, hats, suspenders, tattoos, accessories, sunglasses, flower crowns - all gladly welcomed and appreciated!

Okay, one more BUT... Again, comfort is huge, but yoga pants don't exactly photograph as beautifully as flowy dresses. And especially for women and young girls, the more movement (flowy-ness) in the garments, the more flattering they can be in photos.

'Over the top' gives life to photos, but make sure the style of outfit you choose is truly aligned with your personal style.  I love how much inspo is out there for wardrobe choices, but again - COMFORT/CONFIDENCE is key.  If you're not feeling comfortable in a trendy piece of clothing, but you wear it anyway - that will be how you remember our session, as sacrificial and not comfy. I want to document a keepsake memory, but a genuine one that represents YOU for who YOU are, not who Pinterest told them to be.

Feel free to ask for inspo!

Rain or Shine?

With the exception of extreme weather (i.e. downpour, lightning, anything extremely uncomfortable or dangerous), I believe in getting creative and shooting through whatever the moment presents us with.  But communication is huge here - I'll update you on my concerns and you definitely update me on yours!
